WebFeb 5, 2012 · As I recall, the old Model T's (I'm dating myself!) didn't have water-pumps and relied on "thermal siphon" to move water through the cooling system; top of engine to bottom of radiator, and top of radiator to bottom of engine. If I didn't get the defroster kit, I think the only tools needed would be a 3/8" wrench and something to cut the hoses with. It needs to do this as any unlagged pipes will cool the water in them if no faucets/taps are drawing hot water. You'll be correct, but it's not the circulator doing it. It's water finding a path it can take. It's ghost flow. The solution is to add a second flow-control valve on the return.
