WebJul 21, 2024 · The freehub needs fairly regular maintenance to avoid the pawls getting clogged with dust etc. A 4 pawl freehub is only marginally stronger and faster in terms of grab but weaker in terms of torsion since the diameter of the face in which the pawls seat is the same and more metal is cut away to seat 4 rather than 3 pawls.
