WebJun 12, 2008 · I have a 75 350 chevy engine that is backfiring through the exhaust, I just started the car after sitting for 1 1/2 yrs. Mo internal engine noise, idles fine for about a minute and then just dies. Try to give it fuel and it backfires through the exhaust with a series of small bangs and then flames and a bellow of smoke. Please help. Regards, Brad. WebMay 9, 2024 · Backfires through the carb? Or Exhaust? If through the carb, the choke is probably coming off too quickly. If it performs correctly once up to operating temp, then nothing to worry about. You could check the float level, should be 7/16". Unlike brand H stuff [ & clones ], you shouldn't need any gaskets if you are careful...
