WebMar 17, 2024 · In the vast majority of atom transfer radical polymerizations, alkyl bromides or alkyl chlorides are commonly employed as initiators, and minimal attention has been given to alkyl iodides. Herein, we report the room temperature Cu (0)-mediated reversible deactivation radical polymerization of acrylates utilizing alkyl iodide as an initiator. WebEquilibrium constants in Cu-based atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were determined for a wide range of ligands and initiators in acetonitrile at 22 °C. The ATRP equilibrium constants obtained vary over 7 orders of magnitude and strongly depend on the ligand and initiator structures.
